View Full Version : Help with restoring database

I seem to have completely screwed up my site and am having a lot of trouble! I had been running vBulletin 1.1.5 and tried to upgrade to 2.0, but got an error and it also indicated I had to go back to 1.1.5. I tried going back to 1.1.5 and reinstalling that - i could only get it to install completely by erasing the old database completely.

Fortunately, I did back up the database before doing all this, so now all I want to do is forget everything else and just restore it. But I can't figure out how to do this! I have the huge text file that was created as a backup. I tried to copy and paste this into the box in myphpadmin to run queries, but it's too large - when I try to paste it, it only pastes a small part of it.

I've seen that this can be done via shell access - but I don't have that access right now and I see I would have to fax or mail my driver's license, etc., and it would probably be a few days...and I don't even know if this would work anyway.

So my main question is - I have this humongous backup file that supposedly has all the info to recreate the tables, etc., just as they were - but how do I execute it?

Thank you so much!

Hi Shari -

I can restore your database for you from the server. Just let me know the name of the back up file that you created of the database and where under your domain that file is located.

I just restored the database. Can you check out the forum now and see if all is well again?

yes, it's up and working again! Thank you so much for the quick response!

for future reference - is there some way for me to restore the database myself if this happens again?

Shari -

I'm not sure if you can restore the database using phpMyAdmin. But if you have SSH access you can do it yourself via the command line. If you would like us to enable SSH you can either fax or if you prefer scan and email your id. It can be a driver's license, student I.D., passport, military I.D. etc. Once we get that it takes about 10 minutes for SSH to be enabled.

Shari,

Please contact Stephanie, I have posted her an email concerning this subject.

I would suggest you do this sooner rather than later,

Regards,
Richard.
