View Full Version : which shopping cart

The standard shopping cart I can install from the control panel looks tantalizingly easy to install and work with. Annette, however, suggested using a third party cart that is easier to use such as agoracgi (http://www.agoracgi.com), mals-e (http://www.mals-e.com), phpshop (http://www.phpshop.org). I downloaded the zip files for the phpshop but there are minimal install instructions, the site says they have very little or poor supporting documentation. Ive never set up a shopping cart before so those other carts and the install/configure task seems very intimidating. My client's website is only going to have a few items for sale and NOT processing CC's online. Can you advise?
Thanks, Leanne

If you have only a few items to sell, probably the Alacart is already sufficient for you, if you want a much more robust e-commerce package, maybe this one will help:-
http://www.zelerate.org.

I don't know what you are charging your costumers for this, but maybe this url is an option:

http://www.shopfactory.com/our-products.html

I am building a shop at this moment and would like to say that this programm is so easy, that I feel guilty accepting the complements for it.

You can build it off-line and than just publish it.

Another option is: download.com and search for a card there.

Good luck.

Trijnie,
That program looks great, but the 700 price tag is a bit steep for me to justify the cost. I'd be interested to know, Fweik, if you've actually installed and tested the cart you recommended. If so, any snafu's?

Yes, I have tested their version 1.0.1, that was an alpha version released mid last year on an e-commerce site development. There were some bugs but I guess should be fixed now.

My comment is this is quite a robust free e-commerce program I have every seen, second to that is the popular open source cart akopia.com (minivend/now interchange).

Pretty neat (uses custom template for your site design, uses database for stock record, customer mgmt., multi warehouse....you name it !) and active development (subscribe their mailinglist and you'll know).

Both of them are worh a look.

Thanks for all the input! I wanted to follow up that I went with a cart recommended by Stephanie and Annette,
http://www.mals-e.com It literally took me about an hour to configure and customize everything and it worked on the first go around (extraordinary but true) The best part is that the basic cart is free. The premier account which interfaces with many different gateways is only $5.00 per month.

One - where the heck did Agora CGI go? It's no longer listed at HotScripts.com and the URL http://www.agoracgi.com goes nowhere!

Can someone email me a copy of that script?

Two, Fweikeong - about Zelerate: Just how does one get a secure order out of it? I can't find it anywhere in the documentation. I have the same problem with PHPShop.

Thanks in advance,

Sean

Sean

I don't quite get your question, however the zelerate, to what I can recall, is an auto-generate html prog with custom template, which means everything is stored in DB and uses Perl to extract and construct the HTML pages. To use the SSL, there is a directive in it's config file site.pm, look into the demo and perhaps you can get a better idea on it.

I hope this helps.

Sean, the Agora site did stop working for a while but it is back up now. Had me worried for a bit too :-)

According to the Agora mailing list...

"In case you haven't heard, agoracgi and Steve K. are back. A new web site http://www.agoracart.com (temporarily at http://www.site4.com/agora/ during construction) will also be added to the line up in addition to the original web site, which is back on line."

There's also a new Forum at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AgoraCart
